I was born in Wichita, KS and have lived all over the western US, briefly in Munich, Germany. I first came to Portland in 1998, and knew immediately that this was where I wanted to stay. I love so many things about this town, but the coffee scene especially makes this city feel so much like home to me..
I am a career coffee professional and intend to learn every aspect of the industry that I can, even if I only master a few. I find coffee so fascinating, in part, because it is still rather mysterious. Here is a plant that humans have been cultivating for some 700 years, and still we have cataloged only a fraction of the varietals growing in the wild. I often find myself a bit embarrassed when a customer comments on how much I know about coffee, because I see just how much I have left to learn.
When I am not thinking about, drinking, or serving coffee, I like to pass the time with films, novels, comics, disc golf, entheogenesis, video games, and Burning Man.
